"Turning pro is a mindset. If we are struggling with fear, self-sabotage, procrastination, self-doubt, etc... the problem is, we're thinking like amateurs. Amateurs don't show up. Amateurs crap out. Amateurs let adversity defeat them. The pro thinks differently. He shows up, he does his work, he keeps truckin', no matter what"
~ Steven Pressfield
Although Steven wasn't talking about marketing (he was an author and screenplay writer), his statements about the 'amateur' vs the 'pro' hold true in every field.
There's a fundamental difference in the way a professional operates vs how an amateur operates.
The pro shows up, even when he/she doesn't want to.
The pro produces, even when he/she doesn't have that 'spark of inspiration'.
The pro understands it's the skills that pay the bills -- not any particular sale.
If you really want to become successful in a self directed capacity (read: entrepreneur, small business owner, freelancer), you have to adopt the mindset of a professional.... nobody else is breathing down your neck to make sure you show up, do the work, and follow the process.
